Indian philosophy and Vedic Astrology classifies human temperaments into three basic qualities, sattvic, rajasic, and tamasic.
These types have planetary qualities and psychological and ethical disposition
with reactions to social, cultural, and physical conditions, as is described in
many classical texts of Ayurvedic and Astrological references.
Sattvic qualities imply essence, reality, consciousness, purity, and clarity of perception.
Jupiter, the Sun and the Moon
have those pure qualities and people with sattvic qualities have loving,
compassionate, religious, and pure-minded truthful dispositions. They walk that
path of truth and fight for righteousness and the good cause of humanity. They
have good manners and positive behavior, and they do not easily become upset or
angry. They mentally work hard without getting into emotional fatigue or
stress.
They are full of luster and are recognized for their wisdom that wants to maintain happiness, and joy with creative, humble, and respectful manners. They worship God and humanity and are respectful of every life and existence.
Rajasic individuals are
only loving, calm, and patient, so long as their own interests are served as
their activities are self-centered and egotistical. Again they are kind,
friendly, and faithful only to those who are helpful to them. Mercury and Venus
are Rajasic and the planets of bold and deceiving activities which lead to the
life of sensual enjoyment, pleasure and pain, effort and restlessness.
People with dominant rajasic qualities are competitive and have a tendency to control others. They like power, prestige, and position and aiming towards perfection. They want to be hard-working but lacking proper planning and direction. Emotionally they are easily jealous what makes them ambitious with the struggle to see their own faults what gets covered with mental over stimulation providing only superficial moments of joy. They suffering from a fear of failure and are subject to stress, and are quickly drained of mental energy.
Tamas qualities are heavy and attached to materialism and difficulties to let go of thinks. Individuals dominated by Tamas are acting very impulsive and are moody with inertias that tend toward depression, laziness, escape of confrontation and the excess of being on the coach. Malefic planets like Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu have that quality, which reveals itself with mental work that tires them easily. They like jobs with less responsibility, and they love to eat, drink, sleep, and have sex. They tend to be greedy, possessive, attached, irritable, and uncaring toward others to the point willing to harm others for their own self-satisfaction.
There is a constant
interplay of these three gunas in everyone’s psyche, but the relative
predominance of one quality of Sattva, Rajas, or Tamas is responsible for an
individual’s psychological constitution.
With the three gunas and
the Jyotish insights one establishes a holistic understanding of how these
qualities interact that shape the mental, emotional, and physical character of
once personality.
The Jyotish counselor
provides the empowerment to make holistic lifestyle choices to offer valuable
insights into once personality and potential to balances the energies through
revaluating the lifestyle and awareness.
In the world of change and
circles of seasons, days and age, the goodness of Sattva prevails over passion
the desires of Rajas and ignorance of Tamas. Sometimes passion of Rajas dominating the
goodness of Sattva and the ignorance of Tamas, and at other times the ignorance
of Tamas overcomes goodness of Sattva and the passion of Rajas.
